Today's Updates:

Awesome Work!
Today, I got to see/be a part of...

Becky Vedder's 4th grade class Hangout! Gina Crosthwaite joined, and 19 kids (!!!) were with us, too! They shared their rubbish monsters, which will SO creative and adorable! One was two Solo cups with a knife stuck through, one was big enough that a child could climb inside its mouth, and everything in between. Becky and Gina's excitement to see this kids was so cool and they had a blast hanging out together!

Seeing that Renee Kanari is offering a virtual grade baking session called "Hot in the Kitchen" to 5th graders. What a fun idea!

A parent email thanking Dan Olson for doing a 1:1 math session with a kiddo who needed support!

A meeting with Jeff, Rachelle, and Keli where we started with our "green lights" (celebrations) and all talked about the amazing work YOU are doing!!! Were your ears burning??? 😁

Problem solving with Keli Swieczek and Cindy Carlino on a very "interesting" ongoing evaluation--with a "can do" attitude, no matter what.

Liz Andersen shared a student work sample from Social Studies that was incredibly carefully completed and then a paragraph that blew me away...

Love, love, love seeing what's happening! Thanks for sharing and for inviting me in...it truly fills my bucket.

This is open to EVERYONE, and I know the kids would love to see faces from both buildings, from the Kitchens, from the Buses...they miss you ALL!

When you come into the buildings to get stuff, please be sure to turn off your lights and shut your door when leaving. Helps us save on energy. THANK YOU!

All superintendents have been asked by the Lake County Health Department to make sure the following are in place for all staff who come onsite:

  • No one can come to work who is sick and/or has a temperature at or above 100.4.
  • Staff must take their temperatures at home.
  • If you don't have a thermometer at home, let the administrator on site know and we'll take your temperature for you.
  • All staff should wear gloves and masks when onsite and handling materials that will be sent home to families.

Today's Updates:

Awesome Work!
Today, I got to see/be a part of...

Karen Brnot and Janette Jennings invited me to join the live 7th grade Science lesson, and it was SO FUN!!!! Karen's management of such a big group was fabulous and we learned a TON about adaptations through slides of student work and another set of content information. Each student was greeted, etiquette was reviewed, the comments were monitored for discussion (and for redirection one time), and the all the plates were spinning beautifully. WOWOWOW!!!!

5th grade hosted a viewing party of Bridge to Terabithia for the entire grade and A TON of students joined!!! They just finished the novel, so this was a cool way to celebrate!

The 2nd grade team meeting had 16 people in it and was so purposeful--including big picture planning, thoughtful reflection on ways to continue to improve, collaboration to help each other, and problem solving for a single student with organized and helpful input from all the players the whole time.

These types of super fantastic work is happening all over D114 every day! You are so fabulous, I just can't stand it!!!

Family Survey
I got a great question today about the survey--yes, I'll share the data with you, and I'll do my very best to organize it so everyone has all the data at the comment level. This will probably look like a ginormous spreadsheet sorted by family name, then big picture data charts to sum it up. I'm working on that tomorrow to send to you ASAP. :)

This is open to EVERYONE, and I know the kids would love to see faces from both buildings, from the Kitchens, from the Buses...they miss you ALL!

Where's the first place you'll go when you can go anywhere again?

This shouldn't have struck me as funny as it did, but I laughed out loud!

Today's Updates:

Awesome Work!
Just today I learned about or saw...

The PreK team collaborating and organizing learning for our kids (and families) in SUCH a great way!

Kinder developing reteach lessons to push out to students who struggle on iReady so they can immediately address problems AND planning for a virtual Kindergarten Roundup.

Fourth grade using passages and prompts that ask kids to apply multiple fence post ELA standards (including finding relevant text evidence!!!) in a totally doable format.

Fifth grade students sharing their argument essays--including reading their pieces for their classmates on video!--and making great arguments for and against really relevant topics.

The Stanton Wellness team getting really creative about how to engage the 8th graders when they meet with them at 1:00 on Fridays.

These are just a few examples of great work happening everywhere by everyone

Today's Updates:

Classroom Break Down and Materials Pick Ups
We'll be talking this week about how to organize for you to come in to close up classroom and bagging up and sending home the kids' stuff. More to come, but we have some pretty strict guidelines we have to meet based on Governor Pritzker's latest executive order:

  • Schools and districts should consider creating schedules for a limited number of individuals to enter buildings for the gathering of a student’s personal belongings. Schools and districts should consider creating timeslots per hour per building based on multiple criteria i.e., number of students, building layout, and internal resources available to oversee the process.
  • Students and staff should wear face coverings while in the building.
  • Unless a student requires one-on-one assistance, guests who arrive to assist students should be required to remain in their vehicle until the student brings their items outside to be loaded into their vehicle. If one-on-one assistance is necessary, only one guest may accompany students into the building. Parents or guardians may also gather personal belongings on behalf of students.
  • After the “pick-up” day, keys or district-owned padlocks should remain on lockers untouched for at least four days.
  • Wipes and sanitizer should be made available in school buildings for staff and students.
  • If carts are provided by the school, staff should sanitize the carts between uses.
  • Schools should consider custodial support that may be needed to address litter produced during this process and to sanitize the school following access by parents, guardians and students.

This means...
All staff should wear gloves and masks when onsite and handling materials that will be sent home to families.

More to come on the plan for this later this week! Thanks in advance...I hate wearing a mask, but it's become a MUST DO for all of us at this point. Questions--just reach out to me. 🙂

Cool Math Tool
Thanks to Erica Barraza for finding another cool math tool--Math Pieces! It's a great tool for when you WISH you could show them using Base 10 blocks! It looks like this...
and it's super easy to use! I just tried it with Taylor and it worked GREAT!
